Colorado ultimately didn’t come away with any conference titles at the Pac-12 outdoor track and field championships. But three Buffaloes athletes among the women’s field made it oh so close.
Abbey Glynn, Ella Baran and Allie Routledge all posted runner-up finishes during the final day of competition on Sunday in Walnut, Calif.
Glynn, the standout from Mead High School, finished second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.77. Glynn trimmed .99 seconds of the top preliminary time she posted on Friday but was edged by Oregon’s Shana Grebo (56.41) for the title.
Baran led a strong showing by CU in the women’s 5K, finishing second in 16 minutes, 7.55 seconds. Baran finished nearly six seconds behind 5K conference champ Grace Fetherstonhaugh (16:01.78). One day after placing fourth in the women’s steeplechase, Gabrielle Orie added a seventh-place finish in the 5K (16:32.25) while Kaitlyn Barthell placed eighth (16:33.89).
Allie Routledge collected CU’s other runner-up finish on Sunday, placing second in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.81 meters. Routledge fell just short of the winning mark of 1.84 posted by Arizona State’s Grace Campbell.
On the men’s side, the Buffs received a pair of fifth-place finishes from Ben Greene (1:49.80 in the 800) and Garrett Nelson ( 51.62 in the 400 hurdles).
Overall, the Buffs posted six podium finishes during the three-day meet, a performance also highlighted by Jada Green’s third-place finish in the women’s javelin on Friday and Avery McMullen’s third-place finish in the women’s heptathlon on Saturday.
The CU women placed seventh in the team standings while the men placed ninth (out of 10 men’s teams).
The Buffs will be idle from competition this week before action begins in the NCAA West Preliminaries on May 24 in Sacramento.
