There will be a packed house at Folsom Field on April 22.
On Thursday, Colorado announced that its spring football game has sold out for the first time in program history, with attendance expected to be “just over 45,000.”
With a dramatic increase of interest in the program after the hiring of head coach Deion Sanders in December, CU elected to sell tickets to the spring game for the first time since the 1980s, and more than three weeks before the event, none of those tickets are left.
CU sold general admission tickets for $10 each, while student tickets were free. The stadium won’t be completely full, as some premium event spaces are not being sold for the game.
The allotment for students is 9,000 tickets and there are a limited number of those still available for those who currently have student sports passes. Roughly 36,000 tickets were sold to the public.
Last year, an estimated 1,950 people showed up to the Spring Showcase, despite the event being free. Attendance for this year’s spring game will surpass the total of the last eight spring games combined (36,800).
In its history, CU has had 57 previous spring games, with the first one being in 1953. The average attendance for those 57 games was 6,103. Prior to this year, the record attendance for the spring game was 17,800 in 2008, with the 2011 game coming in second at 15,655.
CU’s spring game will air on ESPN and is the only spring game in the country to be broadcast on ESPN’s main network. CU alum Chris Fowler will call the game for ESPN, with Robert Griffin III and Quint Kessenich.
Parking passes for the game will be $10 each and are now available for purchase.
