Pac-12 men’s basketball Players of the Week: Nov. 21


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Desmond Cambridge Jr., Arizona State, Gr.

Cambridge was named MVP in leading Arizona State to the Legends Classic title with victories over VCU and then-No. 20 Michigan.

He averaged 15.0 points on 50% shooting (11-22) in just 23.0 minutes per game. Cambridge scored 10 points in just 19 minutes due to foul trouble against VCU but scored the go-ahead basket with 1:08 left for 61-59 lead.

Against Michigan, Cambridge hit four 3-pointers en route to game-high 20 points in an impressive 87-62 win. It is the sixth Player of the Week honor of his career in a third different conference after winning four in the Ivy League (Brown) and one in the Mountain West (Nevada).

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Austin Nunez, Arizona State, Fr., G

Nunez was named to the Legends Classic All-Tournament Team after providing 12.5 points in 23.0 minutes off the bench in Arizona State’s two victories. He scored 10 points in 24 minutes in 63-59 comeback win over VCU, and Nunez’s second 3-pointer tied game at 56-56 with five minutes to play and was part of Sun Devils’ deciding 22-7 run over final nine minutes.

Nunez scored a 15 points in just 22 minutes in 87-65 rout of then-No. 20 Michigan in title game. He is  ASU’s second Freshman of the Week honoree (Josh Christopher, 11/30/20) since the award’s inception in 2019-20.
