The University of Colorado soccer team opened up the Pac-12 portion of its schedule with a 2-2 draw against Cal Saturday in Berkeley, Calif.

The Buffs (5-3-1, 0-0-1 Pac-12) started the match hot by scoring both of their goals in the opening ten minutes. Shanade Hopcroft and Allie Palangi scored for CU.

It was not enough though as Cal responded with two second-half goals to send the game to overtime. No goals were scored in OT.

“It’s a dream start,” head coach Danny Sanchez said. “But like I’ve always said, once you get two early goals, there is a tendency to relax a little bit. I thought the rest of the first half we played well. We talked about getting through those first 10-15 minutes of the second half and unfortunately, we didn’t.”

The Buffs missed some chances in the overtime period. CU had five shots and three corners but could not capitalize.

Goalie Dani Hansen had five saves in the draw for the Buffs and Shyra James led CU in shots with three.

Cal (4-1-3. 0-0-1 Pac-12) got goals from Karlie Lema and Abby Borchers  Angelina Anderson finished with three saves.

The Buffs return home for a Thursday’s matchup with Washington. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
