It was not always pretty, but the Colorado lacrosse team put together a 12-10 win on Sunday afternoon at California Memorial Stadium against a gritty California team.
The Bears were looking for their first conference win this season and they were not going to let the Buffs come in and just take the game without a fight.
The two teams played to a 4-4 tie in the first half, but the scoring exploded in the second half. The Buffs were able to score eight times, while the Bears found the back of the net six times, which gave CU the important road win.
Colorado improved to 7-5 overall and is now 4-3 in Pac-12 play. Cal on the other hand is now 2-11 and 0-7 in conference play, although the record does not match the level of play they have given the Buffs both times they have met on the field this season.
Charlie Rudy and Ashley Stokes tied for the game-high four goals as Cal’s Maya Lawliss also recorded four goals. Stokes scored two goals in the first half and two in the second. Rudy was held scoreless in the first half, but her four goals came at the right time in the second half for the Buffs.
Colorado has a break before playing Oregon on April 23 in Eugene, Ore.
