Son of NFL QB commits to CU Buffs

Owen McCown, a QB in Texas, plans to play at Colorado

Colorado has a quarterback for the 2022 recruiting class.

On Wednesday night, Owen McCown from Rusk (Texas) High School announced his verbal commitment to the Buffaloes.

McCown is the son of Josh McCown, a 19-year NFL veteran who played last season for the Houston Texans.

McCown has a three-star rating at Rivals.com and is listed at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds. He has eight scholarship offers, including from Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.

According to MaxPreps.com, McCown threw for 1,080 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions in eight games at Rusk this past season – his first as a starter. He added 270 yards and eight touchdowns on 79 rushing attempts.

Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell coached Josh McCown twice, briefly in 2008 with the Miami Dolphins and for two seasons (2017-18) with the New York Jets. Dorrell was the receivers coach in both of those stops.

McCown is the third player to  join CU’s 2022 commitment list, along with safety Dylan Dixson from Pearland, Texas; and outside linebacker Carlton Madden from Ellenwood, Ga.
