Colorado’s momentum in football recruiting is still rolling.
On Monday, four-star safety Christian Gonzalez announced his commitment to CU for the 2020 class.
The highly touted prospect from The Colony (Tex.) High School had been committed to Purdue for the past three months.
On the 247Sports.com composite ratings, Gonzalez has the second-highest rating among CU’s 20 verbal commitments, behind four-star running back Ashaad Clayton, who committed a week ago.
According to 247Sports, Gonzalez has 32 scholarship offers, including from Alabama, Arizona State, Baylor, Kansas State, Miami, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Utah.
Gonzalez took official visits to CU, ASU and Notre Dame over the summer and committed to CU after an unofficial visit during the weekend of Nov. 9.
The 6-foot-1, 193-pound Gonzalez has played receiver and defensive back at The Colony, but projects as a safety at CU. This season, he has caught 43 passes for 650 yards and 10 touchdowns, while adding two interceptions and eight pass breakups on defense.
Gonzalez is the sixth player from Texas on CU’s commitment list, including his teammate and friend, receiver Keith Miller.
Including Alabama transfer Antonio Alfano, a five-star recruit in the 2019 class, four players have committed to CU in the past two weeks.
