Busy chat today. Thanks for all the questions and comments. That will do it for this week. Enjoy the Air Force game and we'll chat next Monday! For sure it would have. I wouldn't be surprised if some fans left at halftime or the third quarter on Saturday. In the Pac-12 channel coverage after the game, they had KD Nixon and Coach Tucker on. Nixon said he wanted to thank the fans for staying and trusting in Tucker... said if it was last year, that stadium starts to empty of CU fans. I think he may be correct, what are your thoughts? In theory, yes! We at least know altitude won't be a factorsince Air Force plays at 7,000 feet, will they be the better-conditioned team come Saturday?Dave Plati told me before the game the number of media requests and it was nearly 500 - around 490, I believe. And, yes, it's a lot more than we'll see against Arizona. Although if CU is 4-0 going into that game, we'll see a good chunk. Also, an interesting nugget I learned this week is that when you see the official attendance counts for CU games, that number includes the media. I've never heard of that, but I guess CU has counted media in its attendance for many years. Not sure if other schools do that or not.How many members of the media would you guess were in the Press Box last Saturday? Is that significantly more than you would expect against an opponent such as Arizona?I agree that those guys are talented. Chris Miller has looked good. Abrams has looked good after a shaky first half vs. CSU. Blackmon has been good too. My main concern with the secondary is if those guys get hurt.I know the DB's have been a concern and everyone is piling on but when they are man to man, the corners can cover and rarely get beat. Miller seems to always be in position and they don't even throw on #1 much. The chunk plays thru the first 2 weeks have been with backs and TE's and the few huge plays have been missed assignments. I actually feel like the db's because the cover skills are thereI wrote about it a lot during the offseason and fall camp that these guys had a very tough offseason. I disagree with him that players on every other college team would quit because of CU's workouts. I'm sure they are kinda tough at Clemson, Alabama, etc. But, his point was that CU's workouts aren't easy and they built this team. Can you verify what Nixon said about how hard the summer conditioning was? It sure looks like CU is fresher than the opponents in the 4th qtr.Yes, it does take some time. There is a lot to digest in a new scheme and games throw out scenarios you maybe weren't prepared for. I don't know if 4-6 weeks is normal, but I'd trust Urban on that.Hi Brian I saw Urban Meyer comment about Michigan’s new offensive scheme and he said it takes 4-6 games for a existing players and staff to really get on the same page for a full 4 quarters. Your thoughts. Thanks38-14 HuskersIf MacIntyre was on the sideline on Saturday, what’s your guess of the final score of that game?Good question. ... But probably the USC game. They seem to be in trouble but took it to Stanford. Cal's win was surprising, but the Bears did that last year, too.For other Pac-12 games, which was a bigger surprise... that Cal beat Washington IN Washington, or that USC steam rolled Stanford for the final 3 quarters of that game?Yes. In fact, I pointed out one of those plays in my Monday Rewind, which posted an hour ago. On a third-down play in the first half, he had Laviska streaking across the middle and could have hit him for about a 25-30 yard gain. But, he braced for contact and took a sack and they punted.Overall, Montez had a great game and I like him and what he brings to the Buffs for sure! One thing that concerns me is that when he gets pressure up the middle, he ducks his head and waits to be tackled instead of looking down field for a receiver. I really noticed that a few times in the first half. Do you see that too?I loved how he played in his brief time on the field. After watching that I think he should play a bit more.I thought Akil Jones looked really good when he came in to relieve JVD. Do you think we will see more of Jones going forward? It seems like he may be a bit quicker and can get to the edge better. He's looked very good so far. Unsung hero of the offense so far.Russell looks like he's headed for 50 to 60 catch's bailed Montez a couple times kept drives going and blocks like beastMaybe a couple of guys. Darrion Jones could be one. He's got a redshirt year available, and with them losing Harris and Bisharat after this year, that could give them a solid 1-2 of Russell and Jones for next year. As long as Russell and Harris are healthy, I don't see Jones playing. Jamar Montgomery and Quinn Perry could be candidates to redshirt, too.Do you think there are any Juniors/Seniors that Tucker may try and Redshirt this year to bring them back next year? Which 2-3 players do you think could be possible candidates under that scenario?that's a good point, and it certainly could work in CU's favor to not have to cover the pass as much. The safeties especially have to be very good against the run in this game, and I think Maddox and Onu are both good against the run.Having to defend AFA's option can be challenging for sure, but do you think it plays to CU's strengths (or, at least, avoids CU's weaknesses)? CU's secondary remains a glaring weakness, but they won't have to cover as much against an option team. Or do you think the lack of talent that prevents CU's defensive backs from excelling in coverage will also hurt them in defending the option? Thanks! ... No updates on women's hoops right now. Honestly, just too dialed in on football right now. I need to catch up with JR at some point soon, but it's been a few weeksBrian, Great chat and great win. Saw your picture of Q and got me thinking about the Women’s team. I know you think this could be their best year since JRs arriva; any early updates?Given Rick George's months of pleas to keep the red out, I would highly doubt he gave Nebraska extra tickets. CU didn't have any trouble selling those tickets. Single-game tickets sold out in the spring.Any truth to the rumor that Rick George gave Nebraska an extra allotment of 5,000 additional tickets (8,000 total) because CU couldn’t sell the tickets?Maybe ... but I never saw whoanybody awarded the game ball? No. I still have them at 6-6, 7-5. My prediction included this as one of those toss-up wins. I will say that I feel slightly more confident they can get to 6-7 winsYour score prediction for last weekend was very close, especially if the game didn’t end up going into OT! I asked you last week about your win total after the CSU game and said I would do so again after this week, since Nebraska would be a better benchmark. Any changes in your projected season win total after Saturday?Yes, they are.Seems like the Air Force should pass more. Are they being ironic intentionally?Oh yeah, that's been well known for years. Nebraska got crushed by Georgia Tech in the Citrus Bowl (I believe) and Osborne voted Tech No. 1. I think he put Colorado at no. 4 or 5.I have always been told that the reason the 1990 Buffs team had a split National Championship (1st in AP poll, 2nd in Coaches Poll) was because Nebraska’s Head Coach, Tom Osborne, decided not to vote for Colorado. And this was even though, and after years of demanding that the conference's coaches always back each other in similar situations. Can you confirm if this is correct? It is one of the biggest reasons I LOVE to watch the Cornhuskers lose, no matter who they are playing. And, if correct, it is some history that must be remembered and repeated to Buff fans, often!I don't believe so. those guys go to the big-time programs that are competing for national titles. Are there any 5 star guys who are leaning the towards the BuffsEssentially they were. Frost after the game said they went with what they thought were their two best running plays, trying to get 3-4 yards a play. He said he didn't want to risk an interception or losing the ball. Also, trying to get the ball closer in case they had to turn to the kicker because he's new. If those running plays work, and they're sitting at 3rd-and-2 instead of third-and-9, it's a different game for sure.Did you notice NU ran twice in OT instead of throwing in the end zone? Looked to me they were trying not to lose instead of trying to win?Defense. No question. That group played very well when it mattered most, especially the secondary.Brian which unit surprised you the most in the comeback?I'm a bit surprised it's so low. Buffs gotta show up this week, though. AFA will be tough.Obviously still on Cloud Nine from Saturday. Frost reminds me of a spoiled blank. Didn't he eschew Nebraska for Stanford? It would be great to get an interview with Coach Els for his perspective. This week- are you surprised to see CU favored by a field goal? This is where Coach Tucker will have to get the attention of is teamNobody. He was 13-for-18. Yes, he was tentative and played tight, but showed nothing that warranted being benched.Who is the press box was calling for Montez to be benched at half?Russell is the best TE on the team and he won the starting job in fall camp. He's been on the field for almost every snap this season. So, i'm not surprised Harris hasn't been. They use the TE almost every play, but they don't use two TE very often. When they use one, it's going to be Russell.I was surprised that we didn’t see Jalen Harris out there very often on Saturday. It seems like Russell has clearly taken that #1 TE spot...especially in passing situation with only one TE on the field. Russell has played great the first two games...just a bit surprising that Harris wasn’t more involved against Nebraska. What’s your take?haha! To S2S: Thank you! I'll never think of Scott Frost as anything but Scott Farkus! Fantastic!I don't think Frost is a fraud. Some of the issues are due to the Mike Reilly era. They don't have a lot of depth. There are talented starters, but not much depth. Frost today did admit that after watching film, he thought his defense was tired late in the game. I think Frost will be fine there, but I think he's got a tougher job on his hands than he had at UCF. The hype around him - and Nebraska's ranking - was because of what he did at UCF, and at Oregon as OC. He's got a tough task in front of him.Who do you think got the better coach? I'm personally biased, unlike you, but it seems to me like Frost is a fraud. He's all talk. His postgame comments were oblivious to the fact that the his defense was gassed. He thinks they were super conditioned and that altitude doesn't matter. Total blind spot. Lots of blind spots. The reality is that Nebraska has a very talented team and there should be no reason that they don't win now. I will say that he's done a remarkable job hypnotizing his fan base into thinking his current problems are due to Mike Reilly and need 5-7 years to fix.No question all those factors came into play. And it's hard to stop a fan base that passionate about its teams.A lot of comments about the stands. Hey the bars were wall to N fans too. They put out the word to take over Boulder and they did it. Hey more $ for everybody! I must say the 7 game collapse and the pick to finish last has something to do with poor turnouts, although your tribute to the business acumen of season tic holders makes sense. I’ve been hard on CU fans in the past myself, but I won’t be this time. N fans were a freak of nature this time. They really thought they were going to come in and get an easy win and party hard.. For a half, it looked like they would.I'm sure a lot of NU fans bought three-game or single-game packages as well. The allotment is the amount Nebraska buys to sell to its fans. But, those fans can go outside of that. As for the slow starts, I think early in the year, with a new coaching staff, you see the opponents coming out with new wrinkles. there was no tape on THIS CSU team, and only one vanilla game of tape on Nebraska. This week, only one game on AFA. But, CU will have 3 games to see of ASU, and more each week after that. That could help. We'er going to have to agree to disagree , and NU fans didnt pay CU anything it was all secondary market except the 3000 allotment . What do you think causing the slow starts , poor scouting ?Not sure, but they seem to really do a good job of that time at the half to reset. Gotta get going earlier, thoughThe coaches are making good adjustments at half time, but not so much on the fly in the first half of both games. Why are they having trouble making adjustments in the first two quartersThere were a bunch, including Jerry Rice's son, Brenden Rice. Andrew Gentry from Columbine was there; Carson Lee of Cherry Creek; Khatavian Franks, who is currently a Louisville commit. Big weekend for CU.who were the big recruits at the game we heard about?I'm a bit surprised it's so low. I'm certainly intrigued as to how CU handles that offense. I know it worries coaches this week. That offense can keep AFA in a game like this when they don't match up athletically. Are you moderately worried about The AFA? Surprised the line opened favoring CU -1 and has only gone up to -3 as of today, I know the Army v Michigan game Saturday is probably having an effect, but I figured AFA as a middle of the road MWC team and am a little surprised by that lineNo. He was out with a concussion.Did Carson Wells lose the starting job to Alex Tchangam? That was a great hit. Onu was a big-time addition.Have you seen the video replay of when, right near the end of the 1st quarter, Onu up-ending Martinez to cause that fumble? It is a thing of beauty! Textbook. I could watch it all day on a video loop.Agree with everything you said there. What a weekend for CU sports!I understand the economic benefit of selling the Nebraska tickets to finance one's season tickets, but I've been a season ticket holder for 48 years and a student before that and I was totally embarrassed by seeing all the red in the stadium. It shows how loyal NU fans are and how fickle (CU) fans are. On the other hand, I have never been prouder of the CU football team. What heart! Also congratulation to the Women's Volleyball team, the Women's Soccer team, and Jenny Simpson.I would think so, but right now, there are no openings on the schedule until 2029.Can’t wait for 2023! Do you think Rick George is going to do everything possible to schedule additional games between CU and Nebraska after 2024? After the past two matchups, it would be great to see the two teams play on a yearly basis!I would imagine they did. I'm not sure how to really quantify that, but I'm guessing there was a lot of that going on. Smart if they did. Get into that game and sell the other two games.Did the NU fans buy a lot of the 3 game season ticket packages just to get their hands on tickets for the game?
