Colorado’s Steven Montez was named to the preseason watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award on Tuesday.

The award, established in 1977, goes to the top quarterback in college football each season.

Montez, a senior who has started every game at CU the past two years, was also named to the Maxwell Award watch list on Monday. The Maxwell goes to the top player in college football.

As a junior in 2018, Montez completed 64.7 percent of his passes (258 of 399) for 2,849 yards, 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions, while also rushing for 238 yards and four touchdowns.

Montez, who has 34 school records, enters this season fourth in CU history in career passing yards (6,841), third in touchdown passes (46), third in total offense (7,648). He’s got a chance to break all three records this season.
