CU Buffs get re-commitment from 3-star safety

Joe Perkins is back on Colorado’s commitment list.

On Monday, the safety from Madison-Ridgeland Academy in Mississippi announced that he has recommitted to the Buffaloes for the class of 2020.

“After much prayer, conversations with my parents and talked with the University of Colorado Coaching Staff, I am recommitting to the University of Colorado,” he wrote on Twitter. “I am 100% committed to the University of Colorado”.

Perkins originally committed to CU on May 5, but in late June decided to reopen his commitment. He has now decided to give his pledge to the Buffs again.

Perkins is listed at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds and he has a three-star rating from both and He also plays receiver at Madison-Ridgeland.

As a junior last fall, he recorded 53 tackles, four interceptions and five tackles for loss, earning all-state honors. On offense, he caught 34 passes for 577 yards and seven touchdowns.

According to 247Sports, Perkins has 17 scholarship offers, including from Louisville, Arkansas State, Army, Navy and Western Michigan.

When he originally committed, Perkins was the second member of CU’s 2020 class. The Buffs currently have 14 players verbally committed.
