CU women’s basketball adds JUCO transfer to roster

De’Ayra Davis averaged 10.0 points a game at Iowa Western Community College

The Colorado women’s basketball team is adding some depth to its backcourt.

On Tuesday, head coach JR Payne announced that De’Ayra Davis, a 5-foot-7 guard from Iowa Western Community College, is transferring to CU and will play with the Buffaloes next season as a walk-on.

“We are excited for De’Ayra to join our family,” Payne said in a press release from the school. “She will come to Boulder with experience and a very competitive spirit. De’Ayra loves the games of basketball and plays with a tremendous passion.”

A native of Omaha, Neb., Davis played her freshman season at Florida A&M, starting eight games and averaging 5.5 points on the season. She earned conference rookie of the week honors once.

Last season at Iowa Western, Davis played in all 32 games, with 29 starts. She averaged 10.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. She hit 39.8 percent of her shots, 32.1 percent from 3-point range and 62.1 perfect from the line for the Reivers, who went 23-9 and won the NJCAA Region XI Championship.

Davis earned ICCAC Division I honorable mention last season.
