The University of Colorado track and field program competed in the 2019 Fum McGraw Open, posting a pair of top-10 marks in CU history in the men’s sprints Saturday.

The Buffaloes picked up four wins today, highlighted by the men’s showing in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. Duane McClurkin Jr. tied his personal best of 20.89 to win the men’s 200, while Aaron McCoy won the men’s 400 with a time of 46.88 seconds. McClurkin Jr.’s mark remains 10th in school history, while McCoy moves into the top-10 in sixth.

McClurkin Jr.’s mark would have ranked fifth in the nation before this weekend, while McCoy’s mark would’ve been 12th.

The other victories for CU came on the women’s side in the 400 and 400 hurdles. Samantha Crosmer ran 58.47 to take the 400-meter title, while Valerie Welch led a herd of Buffaloes that placed first through third in the 400 hurdles. Welch won the event in 1:00.65 seconds, while Dani Johnson and Kylie Davis rounded out the top-three with marks of 1:01.04 and 1:01.46, respectfully.

The Colorado women also had a strong showing in the 100 hurdle prelims with Johnson running the second-fastest time at 14.00, Eriana Henderson with the third-best at 14.32, Welch in fourth at 14.40 and Davis in fifth at 14.65. Drianna Mustin placed 10th in the prelims at 15.31, and only Henderson elected to run in the finals where she ran a lifetime best 13.82 for second. Her mark would have been top-25 before this weekend.

Also for the CU women, Mariah Walker placed second in the shot put with a toss of 14.69m (48-2.5). She was also sixth in the discus (44.25m |145-2) while Elisa Grandemange was fifth in the hammer (55.82m | 183-1).

On the men’s side, Jeremy Cody jumped 2.03m (6-8) to place third based on jumps, as the winner had the same height. Giancarlo Narvarte placed 10th in the event while Josh Farmer placed 13th.

Gunner Rigsby had a good day in the long jump, placing third with a mark of 6.94m (22-9.25). It is more than a foot improvement from last week and only a few centimeters off his indoor best this season.

The Buffaloes split across the country next week with the distance squad heading to the Stanford Invitational and the sprints and other events going to either the Texas Relays or the Tom Benich Invitational at the University of Northern Colorado.
