One of the most dynamic athletes in the state, Trustin Oliver had a tough time getting noticed by Colorado’s previous football coaching staff.

New CU head coach Mel Tucker was impressed, however, and now Oliver is on his way to becoming a Buffalo.

On Wednesday, the Legend High School senior announced that he has given his verbal commitment to CU. He plans to sign his letter of intent on Feb. 6.

A receiver, defensive back and punt/kick returner at Legend, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Oliver is being projected for the secondary at CU. He has a three-star rating by both and

During his senior season at Legend, Oliver ran for 216 yards and two touchdowns, caught 45 passes for 450 yards and three scores, recorded 21 tackles and two interceptions on defense and returned punts and kickoffs. As a junior, he returned a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown.

Oliver grew up near Compton, Calif., and went to Downey (Calif.) High School his first two years and played quarterback at times.

Seeking to stay out of trouble and get his life in track, he moved to Colorado in the summer of 2017 to live with his uncle. His cousin, former Legend defensive end Tate Wildeman, signed with Nebraska a year ago.

Nebraska was one of several schools recruiting Oliver. He has scholarship offers from BYU, Colorado State and Utah.

Until last weekend, Oliver didn’t have a Colorado offer, but finally gone one. It didn’t take long to commit to the Buffs from there. He is planning to take his official visit to CU this weekend.

Oliver is rated the No. 13 overall in-state prospect for the 2019 class. Oliver signing with the Buffs would give them five of those top 13.

CU signed 16 players to the 2019 class during the December signing period. Oliver is the fifth player to commit to CU since then.
