After leading a rally past Cal, Alexa Smith looks to lfit the Colorado volleyball team to an upset victory against No. 2 Stanford.

The Colorado volleyball team avoided what would have been a devastating hit to its NCAA Tournament hopes on Friday night by rallying late to top Cal in five sets. The challenge becomes far more difficult Sunday, as the Buffaloes welcome No. 2-ranked Stanford to the CU Events Center. A look at the matchup:

Records: Stanford 13-1, 5-0 Pac-12 Conference; CU 10-6, 2-3.

Notes: The Buffs are just 1-18 all-time against Stanford, winning at home in 2015…Senior Alexa Smith, who earlier this week was nominated for the NCAA’s Senior CLASS Award for all-around excellence on and off the floor, led the Buffs’ comeback against Cal Friday night with 17 kills and 17 digs…Stanford has won seven national championships, most recently in 2016…The Buffs host Oregon on Friday (7 p.m.) and Oregon State on Oct. 14 (noon)…The Cardinal’s only defeat this season was a five-set loss against Brigham Young, which now is the top-ranked team in the nation…Stanford has been taken to four sets only twice in five Pac-12 matches.
