Colorado setter Brynna DeLuzio is hoping for another big game Sunday against the No. 14-ranked USC Trojans.

It was an impressive start to Pac-12 Conference play for the Colorado volleyball game, which faced a 2-1 set deficit and a 5-1 deficit in the decisive fifth set before storming past No. 23 Utah on Wednesday.

With seven Pac-12 teams ranked in this week’s national top 25 — along with the Buffs and two other teams listed among the first six squads receiving votes outside the top 25 — Wednesday’s contest as just the first of what likely will be a constant challenge of top-flight opponents. Next up for the Buffs is a visit from No. 14 USC on a Sunday matinee at the CU Events Center. A look at the matchup:

No. 14 USC at Colorado volleyball

Game time: Sunday, 1 p.m., CU Events Center.

Records: USC 9-3; CU 9-3.

Notes: The Buffs were 0-14 all-time against USC before posting a three-set win in Boulder last year. USC won the rematch in Los Angeles later in the season…CU has won six conseuctive matches…The Trojans opened Pac-12 play with a sweep of their city rivals, No. 17 UCLA…USC features two of the top offensive players in the league in Brooke Botkin (4.40 kills per set) and Khalia Lanier (4.04). Botkin and Lanier rank first and third, respectively, in the Pac-12 in kills per set…CU senior Alexa Smith has averaged 3.83 kills per set over the past three matches. Smith also posted a career-high 23 digs in Wednesday’s win against Utah…Setter Brynna DeLuzio posted 37 assists in last year’s first-ever win for CU against the Trojans…This match is the last in a run of eight consecutive home matches for the Buffs, who visit No. 13 Washington and No. 22 Washington State next week.
