Senior Scout Watson recorded her first career solo shutout on Friday, helping Colorado blank the UTSA Roadrunners, 4-0 . The shutout continues the Buffaloes’ streak of holding the opposition scoreless for the fourth consecutive game to open the season.

Junior Tatum Barton led the offense for the second consecutive game. She followed up her hat-trick performance against Missouri with another two goals on Friday. Senior Jorian Baucom registered her second goal as a Buff and a late own goal rounded out the scoring.

UTSA recorded the first scoring opportunity of the evening, testing Watson in the 4th minute. Ellis Patterson fired the first shot of the day off the crossbar and followed up with a rebound attempt straight into arms of Watson.

The Buffs countered with their first opportunity in the 7th minute. Colorado’s Taylor Kornieck set a ball into a streaking Baucom atop the box. Baucom shot the ball in on UTSA keeper Michelle Cole and the rebound slipped out in front of the net. Barton and a UTSA defended met the ball at the same time, resulting in a stalemate.

It did not take long for Barton to make good on her next opportunity. She got the board in the 17th minute with help from Kornieck and Emily Groak. Groak crossed the ball to the middle from outside the six-yard box, finding Barton for the game’s first tally.

The Buffaloes outshot UTSA 4-1 the rest of the half.

Colorado continued to push on offense in the second, resulting in early opportunities. CU had three corner kicks in the first eleven minutes of the half. Kornieck came close to converting on a corner opportunity sending a header just high over the net in the 55th minute.

Colorado will host former Big 12 rival Iowa State at Prentup Field on Sunday at noon. Sunday’s game is the annual Touch-A-Truck game with first-responder vehicles on-hand for fans to explore prior to kickoff. It is also a Wear White game.
