CU women’s basketball posts second straight lopsided win in Italy

The Buffaloes are still rolling through Italy.

Coach JR Payne’s Colorado women’s basketball team posted the second consecutive lopsided win during its three-game run through Italy, defeating Pallacanestro Interclub Muggia 115-27 on Sunday in Muggia.

CU opened the trip with an 82-36 win against Italian Select Friday in Ponte Buggianese. The Buffs finish the trip Tuesday in Milan.

Once again Payne was able to use her entire roster liberally, with 12 players logging at least 12 minutes. Mya Hollingshed and Quinessa Caylao-Do led the offensive explosion by sharing the team’s top scoring honors with 18 points apiec. Hollingshed went 8-for-11 from the floor while Caylao-Do went 9-for-10, pacing an impressive .522 shooting performance by the Buffs.

That mark looks even better after considering a tough 6-for-24 effort by CU from 3-point range.

Overall, five players scored in double figures for the Buffs, with Mathilde Diop recording 14 points and Emma Clarke adding 13. Senior point guard Kennedy Leonard recorded 12 points and seven assists with only one turnover in 17 minutes.

The hosts shot only .196 (11-for-56) with an 0-for-13 mark on 3-pointers.
