The Colorado basketball alums on Team Colorado officially have an opponent and destination for the fifth edition of The Basketball Tournament.
The former Buffaloes, who finished a heartbreaking second in the $2 million, winner-take-all competition two years ago, received the No. 2 seed in the West region and will play the winner of a play-in game between Dubois Dream and Kimichi Express in the opening round on July 14 in Los Angeles. Tipoff is set for noon MDT.
Team Colorado will feature a number of familiar faces from its recent rosters, including Chris Copeland, Austin Dufault, Michel Morandais, Richard Roby, Marcus Hall, Dominique Coleman, and Marcus Relphorde. Guard Xavier Talton, a 2016 CU graduate, also joins a club that once again will be coached by former Buff Dwight Thorne II. Thorne currently is the director of basketball operations at the University of Denver under former CU assistant Rodney Billups.
Team Colorado general manager Beau Gamble previously said this likely will be the final Team Colorado run for roster mainstays like Roby, Morandais, and Dufault, clearing the way for a younger core of CU basketball alums to take over. As usual, the group will hold a three-day training camp at CU beginning June 29.
The roster for Dubois Dream is scheduled to include former Broomfield High star Nick Tomsick, who played collegiately at Fort Lewis. A win by the former Buffs will advance the team into the second round on July 15.
