CU Buffs shine in field events on final day at Mines Twilight Classic

The Colorado field athletes shined on the final day of the Mines Twilight Classic in Golden on Saturday, as the Buffs collected three event titles.

Aaron Haigler won his first event title of the 2018 season in the shot put tossing a PR mark of 49 feet, 6 ¼ inches. This is Haigler’s second shot put event title as he won the event at the Joe Davies Classic in February of 2017.

Sophomore Giancarlo Narvarte won his first event title as a Buff in the men’s high jump. Narvarte tied for first pace with Kolt Newell (Fort Hays St.) with a PR height of 6-7 ½ . On the women’s side, Rajon O’Quinn took home the high jump title with a season high mark of 5-8 ¾ .

In the women’s triple jump freshman Cheyenne Cheshier took second with a PR mark of 38-6 ¼ , her previous best mark came earlier during her freshman campaign in December where she landed a 37-8.

Mariah Walker finished second in the women’s shot put, tossing a 45-10 ½ .

On the track for the men’s 60 meter hurdles, Andrew Ghizzone took second place with a time of 8.50. Aaron Carmichael earned a PR with his third place finish as he crossed the finish line at 8.74.

The Buffs will compete in the Air Force Invitational on Jan. 26 and 27.
