After the breakout volleyball season turned in by Colorado freshman Brynna DeLuzio, chances are Jaden Newsome simply saw the writing on the wall.

Via her personal Twitter account on Monday, Newsome announced she is transferring from CU coach Jesse Mahoney’s program to continue her academic and volleyball careers at the University of Missouri.

Like DeLuzio, Newsome arrived at CU this past fall as a highly-decorated setter. However, the native of Houston never played for the Buffaloes after DeLuzio quickly asserted herself as the Buffs’ floor general during the preseason.

DeLuzio was named the Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Week four times during a 2017 season that ended with the Buffs’ first Sweet 16 berth in 20 years. She earned honorable mention All-American honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association and also was named to the all-freshman team in the Pac-12.

Mahoney previously stated that Newsome and two other freshmen that did not play in 2017, Danielle Price and Anyse Smith, would take redshirt seasons. Newsome presumably will have still four years of eligibility remaining with Missouri.

Newsome will remain at CU for the spring semester.

“She’s a great kid and a tremendous athlete and competitor,” Mahoney said.”I certainly hope that she is successful at Missouri.”
