Buffs’ Derek McCartney, Isaac Miller earn Pac-12 All-Academic first team honors

Colorado linebacker Derek McCartney was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic first team on Thursday.

Two Buffs were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic first team on Thursday, while four others received honorable mention.

Outside linebacker Derek McCartney and offensive tackle Isaac Miller both earned first-team honors.

McCartney, who graduated in May of 2016, has a 3.71 GPA in his integrative physiology graduate school program. Miller currently has a 3.77 GPA while majoring in integrative physiology and psychology.

Defensive back Lucas Cooper, tight end/defensive end George Frazier, offensive lineman Aaron Haigler and outside linebacker Michael Mathewes all received honorable mention.

Since joining the Pac-12 in 2011, CU has now had 10 different players earn first-team honors. Players must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and appear in at least 50 percent of their teams’ games to quality for the All-Academic team.
