Derrick White’s NBA apprenticeship has taken an unfortunate detour.
On Monday, the San Antonio Spurs announced the rookie guard from the University of Colorado suffered a right wrist fracture Saturday night while competing for the Austin Spurs of the NBA G League. The team did not disclose how long the 2017 first-round draft pick is expected to be sidelined, stating a timeline will be revealed at a later date.
White, the 29th overall selection in the June draft, has appeared in four games totalling 21 minutes for San Antonio, going 0-for-2 from the floor and 1-for-4 at the free throw line with six rebounds, two assists, one block, one steal, and no turnovers. White had scored five points in over 14 minutes with Austin before getting injured.
White’s lone season with the Buffaloes last year was a memorable one, with his 615 points ranking seventh all-time among CU’s single-season scoring leaders. White also posted the program’s eighth-best single-season assist total with 148.
