Tatum Barton and Taylor Kornieck both scored in the second half to lift Colorado to a 2-0 victory at Oregon on Sunday at Papé Field in Eugene, Ore.
The win stretched CU’s unbeaten streak to four matches as they’ve won three and tied once during that stretch. The win also improved CU to 10-5-4 overall and 4-4-2 in the Pac-12, the fourth time in the past five seasons the Buffs have reached 10 wins. Oregon dropped to 8-10-0 and 2-8-0.
The win also broke CU’s record for shutouts in a season with its 13th clean sheet of the year.
CU played a strong first half and had multiple chances to take the lead into halftime. The Buffs peppered five shots on goal before the break. Kornieck ripped a shot with her left foot from 30 yards out and it was deflected up and off the crossbar in the 27th minute. Less than a minute later, Kornieck’s cross to Sarah Kinzner on the far left post was also saved as the Ducks thwarted two excellent chances for the Buffs.
Barton finally found the back of the net for CU in the 69th minute. She won a tackle near the left sideline, dribbled to the top of the 18 and fired from the left side of the box to the far post.
“Tatum had a good chance off a rebound off a free kick from Taylor [in the first half] and was causing a lot of havoc,” Colorado head coach Danny Sanchez said. “Coming off the bench, I thought she provided a great spark, not just because of her goal, but because of her energy and her work rate when she came into the game. I’m pleased for her to be able to get a goal to be rewarded for her work today.”
In the 81st minute, the Buffs earned a free kick from 25 yards out on the right side of the field and Joss Orejel’s service into the box found the head of Kornieck, who redirected the ball into the upper-left corner of the net.
CU will wrap up the 2017 regular season at Utah on Friday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
