A look at CU volleyball’s home match against No. 19 USC

The Colorado volleyball team picked up its first road wins within the Pac-12 Conference last week, sweeping Arizona State before outlasting Arizona for a five-set win.

The Buffaloes complete the first half of the league slate this weekend with their first home matches in three weeks, beginning with a Friday night showdown against No. 19 USC. Here’s a look at the matchup.

No. 19 USC at Colorado volleyball

WHEN: Friday, 8 p.m., Coors Events Center.

BROADCAST: Pac-12 Mountain.

RECORDS: USC 14-5, 6-2 Pac-12; CU 14-5, 4-4.

NOTES: The Buffs will attempt to end an 0-14 all-time run of futility against USC … CU begins the week in a tie for sixth in the Pac-12 with Oregon, though the Buffs defeated the Ducks in the teams’ only meeting so far … The Buffs are a solid No. 23 in the RPI … Junior Naghede Abu needs 13 blocks to become the sixth CU player to collect 400 in her career. Senior teammate Anna Pfefferle joined that club earlier this year … Junior Alexa Smith reached her career-best of 25 kills for the third time this season in last week’s win at Arizona … CU is 2-4 against ranked foes … The Trojans are coming off a four-set loss against No. 2 Stanford … CU hosts No. 13 UCLA Saturday night at 7 p.m. (Pac-12 Mountain) … The Buffs return to the road next week with matches at Oregon and Oregon State.
