No. 25 CU Buffs volleyball suffers narrow loss to No. 9 Washington

The No. 25-ranked Colorado Buffaloes suffered their second consecutive loss on Sunday, dropping a close, 3-0 match to No. 9 Washington in Seattle. Set scores were 24-26, 22-25, 14-25.

With the loss, CU fell to 12-5 overall and 2-4 in Pac-12 play. The Huskies snapped a two-match losing streak to improve to 14-3, 3-3 in league action.

Colorado’s Frankie Shebby led both teams with 13 kills. The junior also added 13 digs and a block. Teammates Alexa Smith and Joslyn Hayes each recorded eight kills in the effort. Smith came close to a double-double, recording 11 digs while handing out three assists, and Hayes added a pair of blocks. Brynna DeLuzio handed out 30 of CU’s 35 assists and came up with five digs, one block and one kill.

Washington had a pair of hitters reach 11 kills in Tia Scambray and Crissy Jones. Jones hit .400 and posted five blocks, while Scambray added 10 digs and three blocks.

Washington hit .283 with 48 kills and 12 errors on 127 attacks, while Colorado hit .121 with 39 kills and 23 errors on 132 swings. Washington also led in digs (62-58) and blocks (15.0-4.0). Both teams served up three aces.

The Buffs continue their road trip in Arizona this week. They will take on Arizona State at 8 p.m. Friday in Tempe, then face Arizona in Tucson at 2 p.m. Saturday.
