After losing three players who have transferred out of the program, the Colorado women’s basketball team has added a player.
On Monday night, the Buffs signed junior college transfer Mathilde Diop to a national letter of intent.
The 6-foot-2 Diop played her freshman year at Arizona Western College, averaging 9.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. She will have three years to play with the Buffs.
CU head coach JR Payne said Diop has the skills and length to play anything from point guard to small forward.
Diop is from Dakar, Senegal, and her NLI had to be sent to Senegal to get her parents’ signatures before coming in to CU.
Earlier on Monday, Payne announced three players – forwards Monica Burich, Makenzie Ellis and Eleanor Jones – have decided to transfer out of the program.
Diop is the second JUCO transfer signed by the Buffs in the past week. They signed 6-foot-7 center Jaimie Curtis, from Sierra College, last week.
Diop also becomes the fifth member of CU’s 2017 recruiting class, joining Curtis and freshmen Mya Hollingshed, Annika Jank and Aubrey Knight.
The Buffs now have 11 players under scholarship for the 2017-18 season, four below the NCAA maximum of 15.
