Colorado sophomore John Dressel opened the weekend by posting the fifth fastest NCAA time in the 5,000 meters of the season, turning in a performance of 13:42.57 on the first day of the Husky Classic on Friday night at the University of Washington.

Dressel, placed fourth overall in the 5,000 in the top section of the elite field, coming in behind Oregon’s Edward Cheserek (13:32.59), Colby Gilbert (13:34.85) and Erik Peterson (13:40.90). His time of 13:42.57 is a PR and moves him to sixth all-time for Colorado. Ryan Forsyth dropped 15 seconds off his personal best time from last year in the 5,000 to post a 13:57.80 and finish 13th overall. He is now in the top-25 nationally in the event.

In his indoor 5k debut, sophomore Reilly Friedman took first place in his heat to finish with a PR 14:38.64 and place 35th overall. The trio of Ethan Gonzales (14:20.02), Christian Martin (14:26.35) and Chris Herrick (14:46) also debuted in the indoor 5,000 posting solid scores on the day.

Freshman Makena Morley led the women in the 5k race, debuting in the event with a time of 16:11.72, which placed her 14th overall and 10th on CU’s all-time performers list behind leader Jenny (Barringer) Simpson. Many of CU’s distance athletes competed on Friday including Annie Kelly who ran a great 5k race, placing 28th overall with a PR time of 16:30.11.

At the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Isaiah Oliver paced the Buffaloes collecting, two PRs and advancing to the semifinals in the 60-meter hurdles.

Oliver advanced out of prelims in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.40. He went into the semifinals determined as he dropped .27 seconds to finish 21st overall and earn a PR time of 8.13. In the men’s long jump, Oliver also added a PR mark of 22 feet, 11.75/ 7 inches.
