CU Buffs tennis complete another strong day at Indiana Invitational

The Colorado women’s tennis team had a strong day of play recording five wins in singles and five wins in doubles, during the second day of the IU Winter Invitational here at the IU Tennis Center.

Overall the Buffs went 5-3 in doubles and 5-3 in singles during their solid second day.

In the first draw of doubles the pairing of junior Jeannez Daniel and senior Nuria Ormeno Ruiz, who defeated the Marquette pair of Silvia Ambrosio and Fleur Eggink, produced CU’s first win after they took the match 8-6.

Junior Kyra Wojcik was once again paired with sophomore Ilana Oleynik and much like the previous day they produced a win defeating Marquette’s Courtney Hebard and Lesley Foe 8-2.

Piggybacking off their teammates’ success, sophomore Annabelle Andrinopoulos, who was once again paired up with her country mate sophomore Brigitte Beck, picked up a win against Indiana’s Anna McCoy and Alicia Robinson 8-4 to wrap up the first draw played in doubles on the day.

The second draw of doubles saw CU’s Wojcik and Beck take down Indiana’s McCoy and Pauline Jahren 8-3. Wrapping up the final draw of doubles for the day, CU’s Ruiz and Oleynik, who were paired together for the first time, defeated Marquette’s Isabella Franks and Courtney Hebard 8-6, giving the Buffs their fifth doubles win on the day.

Having dropped her first match of the spring season the previous day Ruiz, who is nationally ranked No. 77, came out and won her only singles match of the day defeating Indiana’s Madison Appel 6-4, 4-6, (10-6) in a match that is now her second three set match of the early season.

Daniel continued her early winning ways, defeating Indiana’s Paula Gutierrez winning her second match of the weekend again in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Junior Louise Ronaldson also picked up her second win of the young season going three sets with Indiana’s Caitlin Bernard winning the match 5-7, 6-3, (10-7).
