After orchestrating a remarkable turnaround season, Colorado’s Mike MacIntyre was named the Pac-12 football coach of the year on Tuesday.

In addition to MacIntyre’s honor, 16 Buffs all-conference recognition. Conference coaches voted on the honors.

MacIntyre led the Buffs (10-2, 8-1 Pac-12) to a Pac-12 South title one year after going 1-8 in the conference (4-9 overall). The seven-win improvement from last year marked the greatest single-season improvement in conference history.

The Buffs are ranked No. 9 in the national polls and jumped to No. 8 in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night.

MacIntyre gave credit to everybody involved in the program, rather than taking the credit for himself.

“Everybody has done so much to propel these young men and instill confidence in them and belief,” said MacIntyre, who earned a $25,000 bonus from CU for earning coach of the year honors. “That’s what’s happened. I’m just fortunate enough to have ‘head coach’ in front of my name. I just get to go along with the ride.”

Linebacker Jimmie Gilbert was named first-team all-Pac-12, as was Ryan Moeller, a nickel back who was slotted in the all-purpose/special teams spot.

Five Buffs were selected to the second team: running back Phillip Lindsay, offensive lineman Jeromy Irwin, cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Ahkello Witherspoon and safety Tedric Thompson.

Nine Buffs received all-conference honorable mention: quarterback Sefo Liufau; receivers Bryce Bobo, Shay Fields and Devin Ross; offensive linemen Alex Kelley and Gerrad Kough; defensive linemen Jordan Carrell and Josh Tupou; and linebacker Kenneth Olugbode.

During CU’s first five years in the Pac-12 (2011-15), it had one first-team all-conference player: receiver Paul Richardson in 2013.
