With Joslyn Hayes back in the lineup, the Colorado volleyball team beat Oregon State in four sets 25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23 Friday at Coors Events Center to give head coach Jesse Mahoney his 100th career victory at the Division I level.

Hayes, who missed three matches, scored 13 of her team’s 60 kills on the night, as the Buffs improved to 8-2 at home. Stephanie Shadley and Alexa Smith also finished in double figures for kills for Colorado (12-7 overall, 4-5 Pac-12), with Shadley totaling a team-high 14 and Smith 11 to go with 19 digs. Shadley had 16 digs, one shy of a career best.

The Buffs took an 11-6 lead to start the match and pushed ahead, 18-12, before the Beavers (8-12, 1-8) answered with a 7-2 scoring run to make it 20-19. After a timeout, Colorado finished with a 5-2 stretch to win the set.

The two teams exchanged points early in the second set, a deadlock that Oregon State pulled away from to lead 12-7, prompting a CU timeout. The Buffs cut the deficir to three at 13-10, but the Beavers answered and increased their lead to 21-16. Oregon State closed out the set from there.

The Buffaloes retook control of the match in the third set by scoring the first five points. They went ahead by the same margin at 10-5 and kept the pedal down to take a two-sets-to-one lead.

With their backs to the wall, the Beavers made the Buffs work to win the final set. Trailing 14-12, Oregon State rallied ahead with a 4-0 scoring run but could not keep Colorado down. The Buffs pulled even at 21-21 got kills from Gabby Simpson and Shadley to go ahead 24-22. Smith won it with a kill.

CU totaled 56 assists to OSU’s 49 and out-dug the Beavers 81-76. The Beavers out-blocked the Buffs by 10.0-6.0. OSU had six aces to CU’s three.

Colorado will host Oregon at 7 p.m. Saturday at Coors Events Center.
