Nuria Ormeño Ruiz dropped her first match in the Main Draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Thursday in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Her tournament will continue on Friday in the Back Draw.

Ormeño Ruiz fell 6-4, 6-0 to Sara Daavettila from North Carolina in the Round of 32. She led 4-3 in the first set before losing momentum.

“It was a tough match today against a very tough opponent. We had some opportunities early and her opponent came up with great answers each time,” head coach Nicole Kenneally said. “We have an opportunity tomorrow in the back draw and we will look to recover and get ready for those matches.”

Ormeño Ruiz won three matches over top-100 opponents earlier this week in the Qualifying Draw to advance into the Main Draw on Thursday, where she was seeking to become the first CU player ever to advance past the Round of 32.
