Jalen Tompkins from CU Buffs soccer named Pac-12 goalie of the week

Despite having its defense under assault for a large portion of the match, the University of Colorado soccer team nonetheless posted its first win ever at Washington State on Friday night.

After withstanding that pressure, Buffaloes goalie Jalen Tompkins has been named the Pac-12 Conference Goalie of the Week.

Tompkins finished with seven saves against the Cougars, keeping the Buffs in the match long enough for freshman Taylor Kornieck to score a dramatic winning goal for CU in the 89th minute. It was the only shot on goal in the game for CU.

It was the third solo shutout of the season for Tompkins, a redshirt freshman Phoenix. All of those shutouts have occurred during a five-game winning streak the Buffs will take on the road this weekend for league matches at Arizona and Arizona State.

CU’s recent surge led to the Buffs receiving votes (five points) for the first time this season in the weekly national coaches top 25 poll.
