Arvada West’s Luke Neff (second from right) was all smiles alongside CU recruit Dallas Walton and club coaches Marcus Mason (left) and former CU player Ronnie DeGray after signing to play for former CU coach Rodney Billups at Denver.

For Luke Neff, a teammate of new Colorado Buffaloes forward Dallas Walton at Arvada West, his official signing with the University of Denver Pioneers on Wednesday arrived with a fair amount of stress over the past month.

Neff previously gave his verbal commitment to coach Joe Scott, who was let go from DU following the season. When Denver turned to former Pioneers guard and CU assistant Rodney Billups, Neff wasn’t sure what to think until he visited a DU workout a few weeks ago.

“(Billups) called me in mid-March, and I went down there last weekend and watched them work out and talked to him a bit,” Neff said. “Just talking with him was settling, interacting with him face-to-face. I’m really excited. I know talking to some of the guys down there that he’s going to be a really good coach. He’s young, energetic, and he’s the new face of the program.”

Neff’s brother, Thomas Neff, started all 31 games as a sophomore guard for DU this past season.
