Former University of Colorado soccer player Bianca Jones has signed a professional contract to play in Sweden for the 2016 season. She will be competing for Kungsbacka DFF in the southern part of the country.

Jones played for Moron BK in 2015 and is moving up to Sweden’s second-tier division in 2016 with Kungsbacka, which opens the season on April 16.

“Last year was just such a great opportunity and was such a blessing to play after school and that’s what I’ve worked for,” said Jones. “This time it’s a higher league. My family and friends’ support of me continuing my dreams has been great. I’m going to cherish this opportunity because you never know what comes next. I’m going into it with an open heart and pure determination to help my team.”

A native of Aurora, Jones was a staple in CU’s defense during her four-year career (2011-14). She played in 83 of 84 matches during that time, tied for eighth-most in program history. Her 81 career starts rank sixth in the school’s record book. She also contributed on offense, scoring two goals and tallying three assists.

“Bianca did very well last season and earned this promotion to a higher league in Sweden,” said Colorado head coach Danny Sanchez. “She is playing and training at a high level and I am sure she will be a great addition to the squad at Kungsbacka DFF.”

Jones graduated from CU in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing.
