The University of Colorado bounced back from a sluggish opening round at the Amer Ari Invitational to jump into a tie for 12th place with Hawaii on Friday in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
The Buffs, who were tied with UC Davis for 17th in the 19-team field after the first day, shot a 4-under-par 284 to enter today’s final round at 4-over 580.
The Pac-12 Conference continues to light up the leaderboard, holding the top six spots, led by No. 23 UCLA with a 25-under-par 551. No. 7 Southern California is two shots back, followed by Oregon State (558), Arizona State (561), Oregon (561) and Stanford (562). All seven conference schools, including CU, are ahead of top-ranked Auburn, which sits 14th at 7-over 583.
CU freshman Wilson Belk carded a 5-under-par 67, closing with four birdies on his last five holes. He sits at 2-under 142, tying him for 27th on the Waikoloa King’s Course. He had a team-best six birdies to go with 11 pars and one bogey. Junior Ethan Freeman also shot under par, finishing at 1-under 71 to get back to even par for the tournament.

Buffs can’t hold early lead at Kansas State
Colorado, one match away from a women’s tennis victory, couldn’t hold off host Kansas State, which charged back for a 4-3 win Friday in Manhattan, Kan.
The Buffs scored the doubles point with a tiebreaking win at No. 1 from Tina Bokua and Nuria Ormeño Ruiz over Kansas State’s Carolina Costamagna and Millie Stretton 7-6 (0). CU’s No. 3 tandem of Alex Aiello and Brigitte Beck were also victorious, winning 6-2 over Sara Castellano and Maria Panaite.

Torres, Ghizzone 11th at Husker Invite
University of Colorado senior Abrianna Torres placed 11th in the pentathlon, while sophomore Andrew Ghizzone was also 11th in the heptathlon at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., on Friday.
Torres ran the 60-meter hurdles in 9.11 seconds to place 14th. She took 11th in the high jump at 5 feet, 1.75 inches and third in the shot put with a mark of 42-6.25. She wrapped up the day with a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 18-2.25 before taking 12th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 35.84 seconds to finish with 3,646 points.
