Friday night will be a special night for 15 members of the Colorado football team, who play their final game at Folsom Field.
It’s also going to be a special night for Larry Zimmer.
CU’s home finale against Southern California will be Zimmer’s final home game in the broadcast booth for KOA Radio.
Zimmer, who turns 80 on Friday, is retiring after this season, his 42nd of calling CU games. In all, he has spent 50 years of doing either play-by-play or color commentary for football games.
Over the years, Folsom Field has become somewhat of a second home for Zimmer, and the iconic voice of the Buffs has been in the booth for all of CU’s home games this year.
For health reasons, Zimmer has not traveled this season, but will make his final appearance on KOA during the Buffs’ season finale at Utah on Nov. 28.
Zimmer has been the color analyst on CU games since 2004, when Mark Johnson took over as the play-by-play voice. Johnson and Zimmer have worked alongside each other for 12 seasons.
Joining Johnson and Zimmer in the booth on Friday night will be former CU head coach Gary Barnett. Before the season, KOA announced that Barnett will replace Zimmer as color analyst in 2016.
