Jered Bell
Position: Free safety
Height: 6–foot-1
Weight: 205 pounds
Year: Senior
Numbers: Filling in for injured sophomore Ryan Moeller, Bell got his first start of the season in last week’s 17-13 win against Oregon State. He played all 73 snaps and tied for the team lead with eight tackles. A sixth-year senior, Bell has started 12 games in his career and has racked up 100 tackles and six interceptions.
Potential impact vs. UCLA: With Moeller still out, Bell is expected to get his second consecutive start. The Bruins are talented at all the skill positions on offense, and Bell’s performance could be a key to the Buffs slowing them down, not only through the air, but also on the ground.
He said it: “(Defensive coordinator Jim) Leavitt, he’s pretty aggressive on his defense. He really puts a lot of onus on the DBs, which I play, so we love it. It gives us a lot of autonomy on the back end just to fly around and make plays.”
