SAN FRANCISCO — In the Pac-12 preseason coaches poll released Wednesday, UCLA took the top honor with 115 points while collecting seven of 12 first-place votes. Oregon (three first-place votes) and Stanford (2) finished in a tie for second with 108 points, with the Buffs' checking in at No. 10 with 38 points. CU, one of four teams that finished with a league-low conference mark of 5-13 last year, finished just two points behind ninth-place Utah.

New faces

There are two new women's basketball coaches in the Pac-12 this season in Mark Trakh, who is beginning his second stint at USC, and Jody Wynn, who takes over at Washington.

Wynn inherits an interesting situation at UW, a program that featured two WNBA draft picks last year including Kelsey Plum — the NCAA's all-time leading scorer and consensus 2017 player of the year who was the top pick in the WNBA draft. Wynn, though, will oversee a rebuilding project in Seattle.

UW's former coach, Mike Neighbors, left to take the same job at Arkansas. A Sweet 16 team last spring and a Final Four club in 2016, the Huskies were picked last in the Pac-12 preseason coaches poll.

"Coach Neighbors and his staff did a phenomenal job of bringing Huskies women's basketball back to national prominence," Wynn said. "It's something where the community continually talks about the women's basketball program and it's not even close to the season. Our job is to embrace what was before us, learn lessons on how to work really hard and achieve great things, and that's what we're taking from those girls who have since graduated and moved on."

Wynn arrived from Long Beach State, which hired former CU assistant Jeff Cammon as her replacement.
