Shandrika Lee has been hired as an assistant coach for the Colorado women's basketball team, CU head coach JR Payne announced Monday.

Lee joins Colorado after spending two seasons as an assistant on Payne's staff at Santa Clara University, where she played a key role in guiding the Broncos to a 23-9 mark this past season.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to be here at the University of Colorado," Lee said in a CU release. "When you have the opportunity to work with great people, you have to take that and run with it because it doesn't happen often."

Lee served as an assistant coach with the University of Oregon women's basketball program for three seasons prior to her time at Santa Clara.

"We're thrilled to have Shandrika join our staff," Payne said. "She is one of the most tenacious recruiters I have ever been around and she's a great teacher of the game who loves the opportunity to mentor young women."

A 2004 graduate of Pepperdine University, Lee played in 98 games and averaged 12.0 points per game during her career. As a guard on Pepperdine's squad, the Waves qualified for two NCAA Tournaments and made a pair of WNIT appearances.

A two-time WCC All-Academic nominee, Lee graduated with a bachelor's degree in sports medicine. She went on to earn her master's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in physical education and sport studies from Cal Poly in 2008.
