The Buffaloes are undefeated no more.

The Colorado volleyball team took aim at the program's first 7-0 start and a monumental upset as well but fell short, getting swept by No. 3 Penn State in the first match of the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge in Champaign, Ill.

The Buffs battled and didn't let the Nittany Lions run away with the match, but it still wasn't enough as Penn State posted victories of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-21.

CU, which entered the match with the program's first 6-0 start since 2008, had trouble slowing down a Penn State attack powered by Ali Frantti, who finished with 17 kills. Abby Detering recorded 10 kills and 21 assists for Penn State while Bryanna Wieskircher finished with 27 assists and 10 digs.

The Buffs' offense struggled, posting a season-low hitting percentage of .265. Junior Alexa Smith finished with 11 kills and nine digs while Frankie Shebby added 10 kills and 12 digs. Freshman setter Brynna DeLuzio recorded 28 assists.

The Buffs will have an opportunity to get back in the win column on Saturday against the host Illinois Fighting Illini at 1:30 p.m. MDT.
