The University of Colorado women's volleyball team got off to a strong start in winning the opening set before falling 18-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-18 to No. 7 Stanford on Thursday night at Maples Pavilion.

Senior Alexis Austin led Buffs with 13 kills, while fellow senior Nicole Edelman had 38 assists.

"That was a tough match for us and despite the tough loss, this will serve us well as we continue fighting through this tough Pac-12 schedule," head coach Liz Kritza said. "We have had many great successes and we also have had some tough days, and today's was a tough one, but I do know this group of players is tougher."

CU hit .204 with 46 kills and 24 errors on 108 attempts. The Cardinal hit .297 with 60 kills and 17 errors on 111 attempts.

Redshirt sophomore Joslyn Hayes led CU with a hitting percentage of .455, posting seven kills on 11 attacks with two errors.

The Buffs, who are 16-13 overall and 8-9 Pac-12, will face the Cal Bears on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Berkeley.
