LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Big 12 struggles continued for the Colorado volleyball team on Wednesday as the Buffs fell to Kansas 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19 at the Horejsi Center.

The Buffs (5-9) fell to 0-5 in league play, though they did notch their first set win after getting swept by Iowa State, Nebraska, Texas and Oklahoma.

Rosie Steinhaus and Kerra Schroeder had 13 kills apiece to lead CU in its closest conference match yet.

"There were points tonight where I could see a lot of transfer from our training and a good deal of progress in the execution of our systems and strategy -- all much needed and very positive for this team as we are working our way to consistency and playing with more experience," first-year CU coach Liz Kritza said.

After falling in the first set, CU evened things up heading into the intermission, with Kerra Schroeder slamming home her 10th kill of the night to close the second set.

But Kansas -- led by a 15-kill night from Karina Garlington -- controlled things from there to improve to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Becah Fogle added nine kills and 15 digs for CU, and setter Kaitlyn Burkett had 41 assists.

The Buffs return home Saturday but things don`t get any easier. CU hosts No. 19 Baylor (15-1, 4-1) at 7 p.m. at the Coors Events Center.
