The University of Colorado men's golf team holds the lead after nearly two rounds of the Mark Simpson Invitational at Colorado National Golf Club in Erie.

CU completed its first two rounds Monday, but not everyone did due to darkness.

The Buffs' two-round total of 13-over 589 (299-290) hold a six-stroke lead over Oregon State (595). Washington State is in third, one stroke back.

Houston Baptist's Preston Stanley leads the tournament at 3-under 141 (71-70).

Philip Juel-Berg leads the way for the Buffs in a tie for second place at even-par 144 (73-71) with Air Force's Kyle Westmoreland (72-72).

Overnight rain added to the nearly foot of rain that fell on the course in the past 10 days. That combined with early winds, made for tough conditions. As the wind dried out the course and eventually gave way midway through the second round, the scores started to come down. Of the players that finished, the average first round score was 78.8 and the second round average was 74.9.

The tournament, honoring the late CU golf coach, concludes today at 8 a.m.
