The University of Colorado men's golf team sits in 12th place after the first round of the U.S. Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif.

Oregon leads the 16-team field at 8-under 272. UCLA is second (277) and Southern Cal is third (279). The Buffs settled for a combined score of 292 after struggling on the final two holes.

CU's four scorers were at 5-over par heading into the last two holes, but the Buffs collectively closed with three pars, four bogeys and a 7-over triple bogey.

Kevin Kring and Beau Schoolcraft are tied for 37th to pace the Buffs after firing matching 72s.

Cougars cruise past

Buffs netters

Colorado sophomore Kristina Schleich earned the lone team point Friday afternoon as the Buffaloes dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 44 Washington State at the Simmelink Tennis Courts in Pullman, Wash.

The Cougars improved to 14-5 overall and evened their conference mark at 3-3, while the Buffs drop to 7-9 and remain winless in Pac-12 play at 0-5.

The loss is CU's 20th straight regular-season conference setback dating back to 2010.

Schleich beat Liudmila Vasilieva, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 at the top singles position.

DeWitt paces Buffs

Colorado sophomore Jason DeWitt placed seventh in the decathlon to led the Buffs' track and field team at the Jim Click Combined Events on Friday in Tucson, Ariz. DeWitt recorded a personal best score of 6,671 points and had four PRs during the second day of action.

The CU women were lead by sophomore Genny Mayden who picked up an eighth-place finish with a lifetime best 5,171 points.
