Bio: I was initially attracted to journalism because I figured out quite early that I didn't have a future playing sports beyond high school, so I thought of a way to stay involved. I talk a lot, too, so it's just a way to gain something from my big mouth. ... My first experience as a professional journalist was covering a waste treatment plant receiving an award for being one of the best in its region. Some people would say my writing hasn't strayed far from that wastewater plant. …
Some of my favorite people I run into when I'm working are CU coaches Bill Hempen and Dan Hawkins and Niwot baseball coach Bob Bote. Hawk always seems to have a good quote, and Bote hates to lose more than anyone I have ever met - high school, college, pro, whatever. The other day, after a particularly dense statement from me following an early morning practice, Hempen said, "You slept on your face last night, didn't you?" While I would hope our readers wouldn't view me as that much of a dunce, I wouldn't blame them. Hopefully they just enjoy reading what I write.
