Tatum Barton is collecting Pac-12 Conference honors almost as rapidly as she is scoring goals for the Colorado Buffaloes.
On Tuesday, the junior forward from the CU soccer team was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks following her two-goal performance Sunday in CU's 3-0 win at Michigan State. Additionally, junior Kelsey Aaknes was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
Barton, a native of Littleton, continued her torrid start to the season with her third two-goal game of the year against the Spartans. Barton is tied for third in the nation with eight goals already, and she is tied for fourth in the nation with 17 points through the Buffs' 6-0-1 start — the longest unbeaten streak to start a season in program history.
Barton recorded six goals and two assists in 22 games in her first season with the Buffs last year after going without a goal or an assist in 18 games as a true freshman at Texas Tech in 2016. Barton also was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago after posting the sixth hat trick in program history on Aug. 25 against Missouri.
Aaknes earned her first Pac-12 weekly honor after helping the Buffs secure their fifth shutout of the season at Michigan State. Aaknes also provided an assist on Megan Massey's game-winning goal in the 85th minute last week at Marquette.
The Buffs complete their nonconference schedule this week with home matches against Utah Valley on Thursday and Denver on Sunday.
