With three games remaining in the regular season, the Colorado women's soccer team remains on the positive side of the NCAA Tournament picture. That margin is thin, however.
The Buffaloes complete the regular season with three consecutive road matches, a stretch that begins Thursday afternoon at Oregon State. Despite getting shut out for the ninth time this season Sunday in a scoreless draw against Arizona in the regular season home finale, the Buffs begin the week at a solid No. 43 in the RPI. The final three matches are against the bottom three teams in the Pac-12 Conference standings, meaning CU basically cannot afford to stumble.
A look at the match against the Beavers:
Colorado soccer at Oregon State
WHEN: Thursday, 4 p.m. MDT, Lorenz Field, Corvallis, Ore.
RECORDS: CU 8-5-4, 2-4-2 Pac-12 Conference; OSU 4-9-3, 1-6-1.
LEADERS: CU — Goals: Marty Puketapu 7; Assists: Becca Rasmussen 6; Goalie: Jalen Tompkins 0.65 goals-against average, .864 save percentage. OSU — Goals: Emma Jones 2; Assists: Natalie Higgins 2; Goalie: Bella Geist 1.55 goals-against average, .785 save percentage.
NOTES: It has been a peculiar season for the Buffs. They have posted 11 shutouts, matching the second-most in the program's history and trailing only the 12 posted by the CU teams of 2004 and 2014. However, CU also has gone without a goal in nine games, also tying the second-most in team history and trailing only the 10 scoreless games recorded by the 1998 team in the third season of the program's existence...Still just a redshirt sophomore, Tompkins' 13 career solo shutouts is tied for the fifth-most in CU history...The series is tied 3-3-1, though the Buffs have won three of the past four matchups...OSU has scored just seven goals all season...CU's road trip continues at noon Sunday at Oregon (Pac-12 Network). The Buffs complete the regular season next week at Utah.
