The Buffs (8-8 overall, 5-3 Big 12) fell to third place in the Big 12 with 15 points and the Aggies (11-5-1, 5-2-1) jumped above CU and into second place with 16 points.
Colorado coach Bill Hempen said before Friday`s game that the Buffs needed to win their last three games to contend for the conference championship.
But Texas A&M has had CU`s number over the course of this series.
The Buffs lost to the Aggies for the 17th time in 19 games between the two programs.
"We`re always judged on wins and losses. Nobody cares if we play well at this point," said CU coach Bill Hempen. "We`re playing well, but we`re not finding that way to win. We always come out and play hard, that`s never an issue, but when it really comes down to making a difference, we`re not able to."
Colorado fell behind less than three minutes into the match when Texas A&M`s Katie Hamilton fired a shot past CU keeper Kara Linder for a 1-0 lead.
In the 13th minute, CU star Nikki Marshall nearly evened the score when she had a 1-on-1 with Aggie keeper Kelly Dyer, but Marshall`s shot went wide right.
Hamilton put Texas A&M up 2-0 in the 34th minute.
Texas A&M outshot the Buffaloes 13-9 in the first half and recorded six shots on goal to CU's three.
"It's sad because we have a great group but we're just not finding ways to slide tackle or dive through the crowd to get a head on the ball and go that extra step," Hempen said. "I don't think we play with enough of a chip on our shoulder like football did last week, which certainly made a huge difference with what they were able to do. Again, we played well, but if you don't have that little bit of edge that some programs have over us, we're always going to just miss."
Colorado next heads west to Austin to face Texas on Sunday.
