In a final tune-up before the Feb. 24-26 RMISA Championships run, the Colorado alpine teams competed in FIS races last weekend at Winter Park Resort, where the Buffs earned 14 top 10 finishes with four appearances on the podium.
Both the men's and the women's teams competed in the slalom and giant slalom, with freshman David Ketterer and sophomore Max Luukko stealing the show on the men's side.
Ketterer won the men's slalom Saturday, while Luukko placed third, and in the giant slalom Sunday, the duo finished second and third, respectively, behind Utah's Samuel Dupratt, who held a 0.17 advantage on Ketterer for first place.
Ketterer's win in the men's slalom race was by 1.82 seconds over Denver's Alex Leever.
Three Buffs from the women's team placed inside the top 10 in the women's giant slalom Sunday, with Katie Hostetler leading the group with her fifth-place showing. Freshman Isabella Fidjeland, who has yet to compete on the NCAA circuit as she's worked herself back from an injury sustained in the fall, raced Sunday in the giant slalom and finished ninth. Freshman Andrea Arnold was sixth in the giant slalom, just 23 one-hundredths of a second behind Hostetler, and classmate Megan McGrew placed 12th.
Arnold had the top finish for the women in the slalom, placing sixth, while Hostetler was 10th.
In the men's giant slalom Sunday, all five Buffs competing finished in the top 10. Along with Ketterer and Luukko finding the podium, Roger Carry finished sixth, Ola Johansen was eighth and Bobby Moyer tied for ninth.
Johansen was sixth in the slalom on Saturday, Carry was 10th and Moyer was 12th.
The races, not a part of the NCAA collegiate circuit, featured many of the same racers the Buffs compete against in the RMISA.
CU returns to the NCAA circuit this weekend when the Buffs compete at the RMISA Championships/NCAA West Regional, hosted by Denver, Feb. 24-26. The alpine teams will be competing at Beaver Creek (Friday and Saturday) while the Nordic teams race at Minturn (Saturday and Sunday).
