The biggest win of the young season has led to weekly Pac-12 honors for two Colorado Buffaloes volleyball stars.
It also has officially elevated the Buffs into the national rankings.
On Monday, on the heels of CU's comeback victory at then-No. 22 Colorado State, junior Alexa Smith was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while setter Brynna DeLuzio was awarded the league's Freshman of the Week honor.
The Buffs also made their 2017 debut in the weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association poll at No. 25.
Smith was the offensive catalyst as the Buffs rallied from a 2-0 set deficit Saturday night in Fort Collins, finishing with a career-high 25 kills against the Rams. Smith also recorded 16 kills in a win Friday night against Xavier, and while the junior outside hitter was honored by the Pac-12 for her offensive prowess, Smith also finished with 15 digs in each of those matches.
DeLuzio became the second CU player to win the league's Freshman of the Week honor, as she set a new season-high with 55 assists against both Xavier and Colorado State. DeLuzio, who has topped the 50-assist mark in three consecutive matches, posted 15 digs against Xavier and 13 at CSU.
The Buffs and their new national ranking will be sorely tested this week, with a road match Friday at No. 16 Utah, followed by a home date Sunday against defending national champion Stanford, which is ranked No. 4.
CSU fell from No. 22 to No. 23 in this week's poll.
